How To Relieve Tension With Yoga

by Eve Landers

I had a setback this past month. My health practitioner recommended I take a supplement ( MSM ) that is legendary for its intestinal healing effects. Inside a couple of days, my digestive system was feeling stressed. I continued on for 1 or 2 more days however it got worse. I have still not absolutely recovered but the healing cycle turned the corner during the weekend. My pain and despair are dissipating as I look for the deeper purpose of this mini crisis.

Initially this actually did feel a bit like a reversal. But time and experience has taught me that events like this are really signs to Step Back ; to pause, breathe, and observe instead of getting all tied up in knots about how nothing goes right, why is this occurring to me. And you almost certainly know one or two more to add to the rant.

What a perfect time to step onto my yoga mat. Practice my respiring, practice relaxing my mind, nurture my body one pose at a time to release tension with yoga. If you do practice yoga, you know that after a practice, when you lie in Savasana, your body just goes ahhhh. It is like the relief you are feeling when you take off very high heels and your toes go ahhhh. But this actual time, when my intention was on answering the question "set back or step back", the relief was within my mind. All of a sudden I felt space for new points of view. I needed to Step Back to create this space or my mind would have continued in the unending loop of why not, why me, keeping me stuck and attached to the Set Back.

The miracle of a Yoga Practice is that it works on many various levels. It covers breathing, relaxing, targeting, strengthening, and unlocking tension. And the beauty is you do not want to grasp which one to target. For example: when handling my supplement reaction, I may have asked myself "what poses do i need to do today for my stressed digestive system" or "for my emotional frustration"; or "for my mental chat suggesting I will be able to never get better". Yoga makes it simple . Just get on the mat and do your practice. You might stay a little bit longer in some poses because you can feel your body asking for more. When handling my MSM reaction, I found my body begging for more time in Child's Pose. When I moved into forward bend, I found I wished to give the pose more breath than usual. Every pose can unlock tension and opens up energy leaving you with freedom of movement, space and a feeling of calm to continue.

One or two days later I was referred to a very special health pro who exposed a deep rooted pathogen which has been undermining my fitness likely for a number of years. I knew it.there is always a gift! My bad reaction to MSM (sulfur) lead me to discover not simply the cause, but now I would also be well placed to find the answer to take my health to a totally new level.

There aren't any Setbacks. Take a second to Step back, do your practice and see what reveals itself it is like wizardry!
